Privacy Policy Update and FERPA/COPPA Compliance

Hi Replers,

In line with our mission to make programming easier and more accessible, we want to get Repl.it into the hands of as many coders as possible, wherever they are in the world, whether they are just starting out, experienced but learning a new language/framework, teaching, or working on a project. And privacy/data security is a big part of that, so we always want you to know where things stand.

To make sure all students can have access to Repl.it and to meet the unique privacy requirements for students’ data, we’re excited to announce a new product update. We want all students to have access to Repl.it, so we’re doing everything we can to protect students’ information. With the new Teams for Education product, teachers can now invite students without requiring students to enter names, emails, or other personal information when they sign up, protecting students’ privacy. This means we are now FERPA and COPPA compliant. For more about what this means, please read this update.

Also, as of September 2020 Replit has withdrawn from the Privacy Shield Frameworks because courts in the European Union have invalidated Privacy Shield. We will continue to apply the Privacy Shield Principles to the personal information that we received while participating in the Privacy Shield. We continue to apply industry standard best practices when it comes to protecting your privacy and data. For more information, please read this update.

You can see these changes reflected in our updated Privacy Policy.

As always if you have any questions, concerns, issues, or feedback feel free to reach out to us at contact@repl.it.

Regards,

Amjad

P.S. We’ve released some great new tutorials for individuals and curriculum for teachers. They are free to use, modify, and share. Happy coding!
